Malina Midera is a Polish pianist, composer, improviser, and sound artist based in Copenhagen. Malina’s work often explores interdisciplinary connections combining music with photography, composing for film, and creating soundscapes for visual art exhibitions. Her musical language blends classical training with jazz improvisation and electronic textures.
As a performer and recording artist, Malina has released albums with various international ensembles such as Children of Fish, midi 4, Klawo, and Malina Midera & Jēkabs Rēders. She has toured and performed in various European countries. She has also curated several art festivals, including LAAF – Łódź Abstract Art Festival 2024 (PL), Slot Art Festival 2022 and 2023 (PL), and Idealistic Festival vol. 7 (DK). Curently, she’s working on her debiut solo album with a premiere in 2026.
It’s a journey through time, texture, and the depth of the string quartet. Personal exploration of musical texture, minimalism, and romantic expression.
The project began with her deep love for the church organ and cassette tape recorder. Started by investigating the sounds and timbre of the organ. This process gradually led me to compose, improvise, and invite a string quartet to join my exploration.
The music moves between improvisation and composition. Through live tape manipulation, the sound is stretched, folded, and made more romantic - becoming fragile, expressive, and intimate. The piece is about deep listening, finding harmony in contrast, and embracing difference - both within yourself and in the world around you
Organ works blend composed material with improvisation, creating a dialogue between structure and flow. It’s an exploration of a minimalist approach to improvisation, focusing on subtle textures, repetition, and the playful sonic possibilities of the church organ.

Soudning Silents is a collaboration between Danish Silent Film, the Rhythmic Music Conservatory, and the Danish National Academy of Music.
Over the course of a semester, group of RMC students created their own personal take on soundtracks for a number of silent films. As a result of my semester course is a soundtrack for a silent movie ‘The Tinderbox’
An international literary festival held in Kołobrzeg - a literary review under the theme “The Future of Literature.” The project involved creating soundtracks for poetry readings by 65 artists from around the world. Some people say Gertrude was an old, mysterious woman no one had ever truly seen - a quiet presence drifting between places, gathering forgotten melodies, though no one knows where she lives, or if she ever existed at all.
Gertrude is a dream pop band whose music grows out of subtle gestures and small, song-like ideas. They move between ambient soundscapes and intimate songwriting, blending electronics, acoustic instruments, and voice into a single, breathing texture.
International contemporary jazz group that brings together the present, past and future through a laid-back and good-natured presence.
On October 25, 2024, the band released their debut album 'Sunrise Paper Punk' under the label Østersperle Plader Records. This album is an eclectic journey through the depths of Earth's oceans, drawing heavily from improvised, jazz, and electronic music.
Their music is often described as 'happy Nordic jazz' or 'Baltic jazz,' which combines the musical traditions of Baltic countries and all those with access to it.
Midi 4 is a jazz quartet presenting original music that combines composed structures with open improvisation. Their sound draws from Nordic minimalism and the expressive tradition of Polish jazz, creating acoustic music.
The group released their debut album Cats, Dogs and Dwarfs in March 2024 on Alpaka Records (PL). The record showcases the band’s interest in balancing melody and texture, as well as spontaneous interaction between musicians. Midi 4 focuses on collective sound rather than individual solos, aiming for honest and direct musical expression. Spotify
'Bye Bye Sadness' is a new year's resolution and an exploration of the wonderful and unique sound world of two Hohner keyboards from late 1980's. All of the compositions are semi-improvised, recorded and mixed on a 4 track cassette recorder.
This release is a spontanous idea of two composers and instrumentalists - Malina Midera (PL) and Jēkabs Rēders (LV) who already work together with jazz and improvised music in a project called 'Children of Fish. This is a new take on their expression of creativity through the limitation of simple digital synthesizers and instant compositions recorded straight on a cassette as first takes. The music is unforced, playful, with a hint of Nostalgia and a laid back approach on the titles...
