The Organ Is A Very.png

Solo organ album

My goal with the music I composed is to renew the sound of the organ, to give it new language and context, stripping away the dust of its strong association with church music. For me, the organ is an instrument of infinite potential, both maximalist and minimalist at once, where the surrounding space itself creates an immersive experience.

Writing and playing this music taught me a lot about myself and my creative process. I realized how crucial breath is in music and how space reshapes sound. And that is precisely what this album is about: the space within ourselves that we open or close to new possibilities. The space that, for whatever reason, remains shut, and the inner world waiting for an impulse to open up before us with a new palette of colors and experiences, like the wardrobe to Narnia.

The album is inspired by late minimalism, improvised music, and ambient. It consists of ten compositions, ranging from two-minute miniatures to nine-minute forms. I like to think of it as a book filled with colorful illustrations that paint the written story in new hues. Przemysław Blejzyk Sainer played a major role in the project, bringing his craft and personal exploration of color to create the album’s artwork (with the front cover based on a photograph by Alicja Jelińska).

TEXTURES GIVE ME FEELINGS

The project began with my deep love for the church organ and the reel-to-reel tape recorder. I started by exploring the organ's timbre and sonic possibilities. This process gradually led me to compose, improvise, and collaborate with a string quartet bringing together musicians from Denmark, Iceland, and Poland.

The piece is about embracing textures - both within ourselves and in the world around us.
